Council hears dog complaints

GRANDVIEW - Resident Roberta Goldade told the Grandview City Council at Monday night's meeting the dog situation is Grandview is out of hand.

"We are bombarded with stray dogs in our area," she told the council. "They run through the area and keep us awake at night."

She felt the city could do more to keep the animals under control and added she would like to see stiffer penalties.

Mayor Norm Childress asked Goldade if it was a regular pack of dogs or transients. She said she did not know.

The mayor then asked her if she had called animal control. She said she did and had an encouraging conversation with them.

The mayor thanked her for bringing the problem to the council's attention. He told her the city has a process and they are trying to deal the animals with that process. Since the animals were most bothersome during the morning and at night, it was suggested to change the hours of patrol for the animal control officer.

City attorney Jack Maxwell said the fine for letting a dog roam free is $100 for a first offense and then increases after each offense.

The chamber requested the 100 block of Division St. to be closed that day from noon to 6 p.m.
