Passenger injured in collision

Maria G. Torres, 21, of Grandview was injured in a two-car collision yesterday, Aug. 21, at 8:28 p.m. at the intersection of Bethany and Van Belle roads. She was transported to Sunnyside Community Hospital.

Torres was a passenger in a 1993 Chevrolet Geo Prism that was struck by a car driven by Abel Barcenas, 21, of Mabton.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Barcenas was eastbound on Van Belle, stopped at a stop sign and then failed to yield the right-of-way and collided with the Chevrolet in the intersection. The Chevrolet, which was northbound on Bethany, was driven by German R. Garcia, 28, of Grandview.

Neither driver was injured, all were wearing seat belts and drugs and alcohol were not involved, State Trooper Miller reported. He said both vehicles were totaled and were towed from the scene.
