Part of the I-82, exit 67, interchange near Sunnyside appears to be on track for an upgrade.
Last night Port of Sunnyside commissioners agreed to landscape and irrigate two areas totaling six acres on the south side of the interchange adjacent to the John Deere dealership.
The work will be done under terms of an agreement with Sunnyside, which is pending approval by the city council next Monday. Port commissioners approved the agreement last night.
Under the agreement, the port would landscape, install irrigation lines and provide maintenance for the area. In exchange, the city would provide irrigation water at no charge and waive permit fees.
"We're excited to make that a more appealing area," said Port Manager Amber Hansen.
Hansen said volunteers are needed on Saturday, Sept. 9, at 7 a.m. to help assemble and install irrigation lines in the two areas near the interchange. For more information on the project or to help, contact Travis Jansen at the port at 839-7678.
