For Lower Valley folks, it will mean a 70-mile round-trip to Yakima for five days, but it could be worthwhile for those who do not speak Spanish, but want to learn.
Adults of all ages will be immersed in the Spanish language by hearing and speaking only Spanish with native speakers in a 20-hour course offered over five days.
The classes will be geared to beginning and intermediate levels. The first will be from Sept. 11th to the 15th from 8 a.m. to noon. The second class will be from Sept. 18th to 22nd from 4 to 8 p.m. They will be given at La Casa Hogar Yakima Interfaith Coalition, 106 South Sixth Street, Yakima.
"Our classes are fun and offered in a charming home setting and are taught by the staff and women of La Casa Hogar," said Carole Folsom-Hill, executive director of La Casa Hogar Yakima Interfaith Coalition in Yakima.
The class, labeled the September Experience, has been offered in previous years.
"Our goal with the September Experience is to teach new learning experiences and share an opportunity to experience the Mexican culture," said Folsom-Hill.
"It is a great start for the beginner and wonderful practice for those approaching the intermediate level," she added.
The 20-hour classes are offered at $200 per person and corporate packages are available.
Folsom-Hill said all proceeds from the classes will benefit the programs of La Casa Hogar.
"Our mission is to cultivate empowerment and self-sufficiency through English classes, driving skills, computer literacy, parent education and leadership skills to over 400 Hispanic women and children annually," said Folsom-Hill.
