Council approves annexations

The Sunnyside City Council on Tuesday approved two annexations. One was annexing just over eight acres north of Columbia Avenue and west of Dayton Drive. The other annexation involved bringing 29.5 acres north of Morgan Road, east of North 16th Street, and south of Sheller Road into the city limits.

Street name change gets OK

Stretches of Washout Road and Mabton/Sunnyside Highway within the Sunnyside city limits will be renamed 16th Street, according to action approved last night by the Sunnyside City Council.

City Manager Bob Stockwell said Sunnyside had to take the step to remain in compliance with state statutes mandating consistency in street names.

Hearing set for residential landscape ordinance

On Monday, Sept. 11, the Sunnyside City Council will hold a public hearing to take comment on a proposed landscape ordinance for residential homes. The hearing, set for 6:30 p.m., will consider the ordinance, which includes a requirement that all new home construction include underground sprinkler systems.

Council approves street closures

Street closures for the Sunshine Days Parade and the Sunshine Days Soap Box Derby were approved last night by the Sunnyside City Council.

Both events are scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 16.

The parade route will begin at the Sunnyside High School parking lot and continue west on Edison Avenue, before turning south onto Sixth Street to Lincoln Avenue.

The soap box derby will require a closure of Fourth Street to Harrison Avenue, Grant Street to Fifth Street and Crescent Avenue at Bridge Street.
