Sunnyside School District welcomes more new teachers

Tanya Bos, a native of Sunnyside, has been hired to teach pre-school at Outlook Elementary School. She received a Bachelor's of Arts degree in elementary education at Central Washington University.

She has been a substitute teacher in Sunnyside for the last two years.

Sarah Deal, a native of Camas, earned her degree in elementary education from Washington State University.

She has been hired to teach the first grade at Chief Kamiakin Elementary School. She previously did her student teaching and a stint of substituting in Vancouver.

Sacha Mike is married to Phil Mike and is from Poipu, Kauai, Hawaii.

She has been hired to teach ninth grade English at Sunnyside High School. She has a Bachelor's of Arts in English from Chaminade University and a Master's of Arts in adult education and distance learning from the University of Phoenix.

Mike has previously taught in Lake wood, Puyallup, Sumner and Spanaway.

Linda Gutierrez is married to John Gutierrez and has three children; 15-year-old Greg, 13-year-old Grace and 11-year-old Andrew.

Gutierrez has been hired to teach seventh grade math at Harrison Middle School.

She is from Bloomfield, N.M. and received her degree in Education from New Mexico State University.

She has taught in Farmington, N.M., Bloomfield, N.M. and Denver, Colo.

John Gutierrez is married to Linda Gutierrez and has three children. He is from Bloomfield, N.M. and received his degree in education from New Mexico State University.

He has been hired to teach seventh grade math at Harrison Middle School. He previously taught in Aztec, N.M., Bloomfield, N.M. and Denver, Colo.

Andrea Gibb is married to David Gibb and they have one 15-month-old child named Jaisha.

She has been hired to teach first grade dual-language English at Outlook Elementary School.

Gibb is from Granger and received her Bachelor's of Arts in elementary education from Central Washington University.

Laura Jean Leach is from Granger and received her degree in English from Eastern Washington University.

She is the daughter of David and Janet Leach. She has been hired to teach ninth grade English at Sunnyside High School.

Ray Merkel is married to Kristina Merkel and he is from Spokane. The Merkels have three children; Evan Taylor, 13, Daniel Taylor, 12 and Alex Merkel, 13.

He has a Bachelor's of Arts in computer science business and his Masters degree in teaching in elementary education. Both degrees are from Whitworth College.

He has been hired as an enrichment specialist at Washington Elementary School. He previously taught in Spokane and Worley, Idaho.

Ida Olson is the daughter of Brenda McCain and is from North Pole, AK.

She received her degrees in French and history from Mount Holyoke College. She earned her teacher's license from the University of Alaska at Fairbanks.

She has been hired to teach French at Sunnyside High School. She previously taught in Alakanuk, Alaska.

Rebecca Luna Pezzullo is the daughter of Olegario and Angelica Luna. Her son is 7-year-old Gage Pezzullo.

She earned her Bachelors of Arts from Whitworth College and her Masters degree in teaching at Heritage University.

Pezzullo has been hired to teach a dual-language second grade class at Pioneer Elementary School.

She is from Prosser.

Stephanie Sanchez will be employed as a school nurse/nursing assistant for eleventh and twelfth grade at Sunnyside High School.

Married to Michael Sanchez, she is a Sunnyside native and has five children.

Sanchez earned her Bachelor's of Science degree from Linfield Good Samaritan School of Nursing.
