WALLA WALLA - The Bickleton varsity boys basketball team fell to Walla Walla in its season opener last night, 71-44.
Walla Walla's 'C' squad outscored the Pirates in the first half by 20.
"We just couldn't get over that initial surge in the beginning," said Coach Ben McBride. "Walla Walla had a very balanced attack," he added. "They had a lot of fast breaks."
"We didn't quite get it done defensively," said McBride. "We did better in the second half, playing them somewhat evenly. We've got to come out with more enthusiasm, aggressiveness on defense and be able to run the court."
McBride said that for younger players on the Bickleton team, it was their first time at extended play. One player, freshman Edgar Molina, stood out in particular. "I look to him to have some good games coming up," said McBride.
Bickleton travels to Arlington this Saturday for its second game of the season. "We should match up pretty well," McBride said of this Saturday's game.
