Gang shooting leads to arrests

Sunnyside police were dispatched to South 13th Street and East Jackson Avenue for a gang fight with a knife last night at about 7:45 p.m. Officers were responding when they were advised, by dispatch, that shots were reported fired and one person was hit by the gunfire.

The victim was located at the scene. A male juvenile, age 15, was found shot in the ankle and the Sunnyside Fire Department transported him to Sunnyside Community Hospital. He was treated and released with follow-up medical attention.

A resident in the area of the gang fight reported his home had been hit by gunfire. A bullet slug from the shooting was found in a bedroom wall after determining it had gone through the window. The bullet was recovered as evidence.

A Hispanic male passenger in a grey Dodge Neon is the primary suspect in the shooting.

This morning, Detective Sergeant Jeff Cunningham said, "We are unable to locate a suspect due to less than cooperative victims."

The victim is being charged with provoking an assault and disorderly conduct. Three other arrests were made as a result of the incident being gang related.
