CONNELL - Traveling to Connell last night, the Mabton Vikings wrestled a double-dual meet with Connell and Royal City, beating both.
The Vikes first took on Connell, winning 52-29.
The Vikings took advantage of five forfeits by the Eagles. Mabton gave away two forfeits themselves.
Eric Meza, wrestling in the 112-lb. weight class, pinned David Montes of Connell in 2:53. The two other pins against Connell were by Mabton's Tony Vargas (140 lbs.) over D.J. Galvez in 1:59 and Mabton's Robert Marquez (215 lbs.), who pinned Josh Rankin in 3:23.
Andy Torres (135 lbs.) scored a major decision against Connell's Wes Jenks, beating him 15-1.
"It went pretty well," Mabton Coach John Kilian said. "A couple of guys were a little flat but we went out and got the job done. It wasn't spectacular but it was a win."
Mabton picked up its second win of the night when the Vikings beat Royal City 46-21. Royal sent a mix of varsity and junior varsity players as the cream of Royal's crop was traveling to a tournament in Idaho.
The Vikings scored six pins against the Knights.
Mabton's Luis Avilas (119 lbs.) pinned Humberto Jimenez in 3:40.
"It was a good match," Kilian said. "Humberto had beaten Luis last year and it was a good victory for him."
In the 125-lb. weight class, Nunez scored a pin for the Vikings when he beat Cody Eilers in 58 seconds.
Rivera (135 lbs.) pinned Victor Godoy in 2:52 and Tony Vargas picked up his second pin of the night when he beat Roberto Cruz in 2:50.
Robert Marquez (215 lbs.) pinned Jacob Christensen in 5:07 and heavyweight Eli Perez (285 lbs.) took Edgar Montoya to the mat in 2:51.
Wrestling at 130-lbs., Mabton's Andy Torres beat Ivan Esquivel 14-2.
"We did OK," Kilian said. "We beat a mixture of varsity and JV."
The Vikings (0-0, 2-1) will travel to Cathlamet this weekend to participate in the Wahkiakum Tournament.
