OUTLOOK - Four days after fire caused at least $2 million in damages to Outlook Elementary School, officials still don't know what caused the fire.
The federal bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms' Yakima division determined that the fire started in a stage area of the school's old gym.
Beyond that, the ATF was unable to find the specific cause of the fire, even after calling in specialists.
In response, the Sunnyside School District insurer, Canfield and Associates, has hired a fire investigator in an attempt to find a cause to the fire.
According to Fire District #5 Deputy Chief Kevin Frazier, an investigator was to start work at the site yesterday. "It will likely be several days before a possible cause is determined," Frazier said.
In the fire's aftermath, the district has set up temporary classrooms for Outlook students following the winter break.
