Mabton adopts 2007 budget

MABTON - At a special meeting held this past Thursday night, Mabton City Council passed its 2007 budget.

The budgeted amount for 2007 is $2,921,972.

Several departmental requests were approved this year in an effort to enhance services in Mabton.

The Public Works Department will get a gas welder, which will be used in part to create park benches and garbage containers in the city. They will also get two new tractors this year. One is a tractor type mower to be used at the cemetery.

Fire Department volunteers will see a boost in pay from $4.76 per call to $6 per call, and will no longer have to use their own vehicles for training. Also, the fire department will purchase three new responder devices to keep up with technological changes within Yakima County.

The Police Department will purchase a tazer system, networked laser jet printer system a fax machine and leather gear for officers.

After the grueling budget process, council members have agreed to set up a finance committee to begin the 2008 budget process as early as February or March 2007.
