Bernice S. Mortensen, 88, a lifetime Sunnyside resident, went to be in the arms of her loving Savior Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006.

Bernice was born Nov. 16, 1917, in Sunnyside, the daughter of Fred and Olive (Landon) Schader. She received her education in Sunnyside and graduated with the Class of 1935.Bernice attended Northwestern Business College in Portland, Ore. On June 28, 1941, she married Albert M. Mortensen in Sunnyside. Bernice worked for Lower Valley Brokers, Horace Miller and Ash Pearce Agency in Sunnyside.

She was a life member and taught Sunday school at United Methodist Church in Sunnyside.

Bernice enjoyed dancing, church activities and cherished time spent with her boys and family.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Albert Mortensen of Sunnyside; two sons, Jim (Linda) Mortensen of Sunnyside and Tom (Christie) Mortensen of Bickleton; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one sister, Valeta (Cliff) Miller; two sisters-in-law, Marcella Schader and Marjorie Schader.

She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Leonard and Robert. Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, at 4 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside. Inurnment will be at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens.Those wishing to honor Bernice's memory may contribute to the United Methodist Church. Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
