GRANDVIEW - An open house will be held Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 4 p.m. in Grandview to mark the opening of the Lower Valley District Court after an 8- year absence.
Dedication remarks will be given by Presiding Judge Michael McCarthy, Grandview Mayor Norm Childress and Yakima County Commissioner Jesse Palacios.
The new branch of Yakima County District Court is located at 1313 Wine Country Road at the entrance to Grandview, just off I-82.
In addition to district court services and offices for judges, the facility will house adult and juvenile probation services and offices for prosecutors and defense attorneys. Some Superior Court matters will also be dealt with at this facility.
The location of the Lower Valley District Court in Grandview came about after the Yakima County District Court judges began working two years ago with the Yakima County Board of County Commissioners and the Yakima County Law and Justice Committee to restore services to the Lower Valley.
The court's plan became a reality after the passage of the three-tenths sales tax initiative, which was earmarked for law and justice.
