Mabton shows holiday support

The Mabton Fire Department would like to take a special moment to thank our community, our friends and our neighbors. With their help, every year at Christmas time we are able to adopt some families in our community, and give gifts of food, clothing and toys.

This year with their generosity, both throughout the year and at Christmas time, we were able to adopt 10 families.

We would like to give special thanks to Canam Steel, Gamma Alpha Omega Sorority Inc. of Pullman, Ted and Pat Wilton, Ruth Hicks, Hank and Blanche Tobin, Vera Zavala and Velva Herrera. There were many more who donated both now and during the year, and we want to say a special thank you to them as well.

Can't take Christ out of Christmas

I am glad for people like John Fannin, who aren't afraid to write about the things of God. A community Christmas service, as he suggested in his recent column, would be great, and my group - Heartstrings - would volunteer to be a part of it.

We do need to take Christmas back. There have always been people who leave Christ out of Christmas, but this year it was more sad to me that they were trying to officially leave Christ out.

You can't take Him out of my Christmas. Tragedy struck my life 31 years ago during the Christmas season and I could not have survived all these Christmas seasons without Jesus Christ. It's because of Christ that I've survived my life mistakes and hurtful, mean people. And it is because of Jesus that there are people like John Fannin and kind, loving people who make up for the hurtful people.

Also, my son Chris and I would like to thank whoever put his name in for a Christmas donation. It was a surprise and very much appreciated.

Thank you, John Fannin!
