YAKIMA - The outnumbered Sunnyside's boys swim team lost to Cheney on Saturday, 111-28. But it was a defeat full of victories, according to Coach Carl Scott.
"The guys had a great showing versus Cheney," Scott said.
Anthony Kim earned a pair of first-place finishes for the Grizzlies. Kim swam to the top spot in the 200 freestyle in 1:54.96 and bested the field in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.75.
Also bringing home first-place honors was Alex Henry with a time of 1:17.53 in the 100 breaststroke. Henry was second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 27.98.
Zile Wagner swam to a third-place mark of 1:01.87 in the 100 freestyle and fourth in the 200 with a time of 2:20.37.
"Zile and Alex are working on getting all of their district qualifying times and are trying to decide which races would be best for them to compete in at districts," Scott observed.
He added that Kim is nearing a state qualifying time in the 200 freestyle.
"We are working hard on trying to improve the smaller parts of the races," Scott said of elements such as starts and turns.
The Grizzly swimmers next take to the pool at the Kentridge Invite in Federal Way this coming Saturday.
