BICKLETON - It took almost a month but the Bickleton Lady Pirates finally played the remaining 28 seconds of their game with Lyle and won 34-31.
That was the same score the teams had when the lights went out at Bickleton High School last Dec. 16 with 28 seconds left in the game.
"We're pretty thrilled about it," Bickleton Coach Tom Whitmore said. "There are four teams in our division and the top three go to the district tournament. This helps."
For the Lady Pirates (1-2, 2-8), it was their first league win of the season.
Even though the two teams only played for 28 seconds, there was plenty of action. Bickleton had possession under Lyle's basket to start. In the next 12 seconds, Lyle fouled Bickleton three times, there was one jump ball and four out-of-bound plays.
Chelsey Mercer went to the line for Bickleton after the third foul for a one-and-one but missed her first shot.
Lyle did have a chance. They managed to get off two shots at the end but were shooting from inside the 3-point line when they were down by 3 points.
"I don't know if they were confused or trying to draw a foul," Whitmore said.
Bickleton travels to Klickitat tonight to take on the Lady Vandals in a league game.
