Burglary suspect nabbed

Grandview police arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with a burglary at Dave's Recycling Center on Saturday, Jan. 14.

Derek Knight, 23, was arrested after a brief struggle with police with assistance from the Sunnyside Police Department.

He was arrested in Sunnyside in the vicinity of the Mid-Valley Mall, Grandview Detective James Driscoll said.

Knight, and another unidentified suspect, are accused of stealing money from a cash register kept outside Dave's Recycling Center, Grandview police said.

The amount taken was $690, Driscoll said.

An employee, who was on break at the time, got in his car and followed the suspects while communicating with police in Grandview.

"I guess a guy caught them doing it, and jumped in a car and followed them," Driscoll said.

The employee followed the suspects to Sunnyside, where Grandview police and Sunnyside police collaborated on the arrest effort.

Police are seeking charges of theft and burglary against Knight for the crime.

Grandview police have a lead on the identity of the second suspect but have not made any arrests at this time.

Anyone with information about the burglary and the identity of the second suspect is urged to call the Grandview Police Department at 882-2000.
