YAKIMA - Despite a 144-14 loss to West Valley on Tuesday, the outmanned Sunnyside boys swim team celebrated as Alex Henry and Zile Wagner each recorded personal bests.
"Alex had a wonderful 100 meter breaststroke race and had a best time of 1:16.15," said Coach Carl Scott. "He has been working hard on that event and will swim it at Districts."
In addition to taking second in the 100 breastroke in a personal best time, Henry was fourth in the 50 freestyle with a mark of 27.69.
Zile Wagner brought home second-place honors in the 200 freestyle, recording a personal best time of 2:18.86.
"Zile was able to have an impressive freestyle, even though he was out sick for a few days," Scott observed.
Wagner also was fourth in the 50 freestyle by finishing with a time of 27.69.
Sunnyside's third swimmer, Danny Negrete, swam to a fifth place finish in both the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle with times of 33.43 and 1:13.84, respectively.
"Danny has been working very hard on his dive and has improved greatly," Scott noted. "He is working on his freestyle races and will probably swim the 50 and 100 freestyle at Districts."
