of ag land asked to make reports
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency is
requesting that all foreign owners of ag land in Yakima County report their
local land transactions.
"Foreign owners of U.S. agricultural land are required
by the Agricultural Foreign Investment Disclosure Act to report land holdings,
acquisitions, dispositions and leases of 10 years or more," said Brian
Miller, Farm Service Agency executive director for Yakima County.
Miller said failure to report these changes can result in a
civil penalty of up to 25 percent of the fair market value of an owner's
interest in agricultural land.
