Lydia Payton, 90, a long-time Sunnyside resident went to be in the arms of her heavenly Father Sunday, June 4, 2006, at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.

Lydia was born March 7, 1916 in Laurel, Mont., the daughter of Phillip and Katharine Frank. Lydia received her education in Naches. On April 29, 1936 she married Clarence R. Payton in Yakima. They moved to the Grandview and Sunnyside area in 1948. Lydia worked for Haskin Variety Store for many years. Her husband, Clarence, passed away in 1989, and Lydia continued to make Sunnyside her home until the time of her death.

Lydia is survived by two sons, Ben Payton (Lupe) of Sunnyside and Bill Payton (Shirley) of Richland; six grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Alex Frank of Yakima and Victor Frank of Puyallup; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; one great- granddaughter, Kaycee Payton; two sisters, Katie and Mary; and five brothers, Phillip, Henry, William, George and Jake.

Viewing and visitation will be held Tuesday, June 6, 2006, from 1 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, June 7, 2006, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens, Sunnyside.
