Despite scoring threats in the first two innings, the Sun Valley 13-year-old Babe Ruth baseball team lost 12-2 at home yesterday to Richland.
After Richland pushed across five runs in the top of the first, the Sunnyside squad responded by loading the bases with one out. But a come backer to the pitcher and a strikeout ended the threat.
Sun Valley rallied in the bottom of the second, again loading the bases, and again was unable to bring in a run.
Coach Jaime Garcia said the early momentum was encouraging to his squad, even though it came up empty-handed.
"If we could just find a way to score a run here or there," he said. "We're hitting the ball where they (opposing fielders) are."
Richland put the game away with a three-run outburst in the third, and four more in the fourth.
Sun Valley tallied its two runs in the fourth to nibble away at the Richland lead, but it wasn't enough to end the contest after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
Sun Valley (0-7) has the weekend off and plays at Richland next Monday.
