Haystack fire causes $600,000 loss at dairy

GRANGER - Spontaneous combustion in 400 tons of hay on Sunday resulted in a $600,000 loss at Golob Dairy at 520 Nelson Road, Granger.

Yakima County Fire District #5 was called out at 3:21 p.m. yesterday afternoon. Sixteen volunteers from three county stations-Granger, Zillah and Outlook-responded, and, under the direction of Battalion Captain Ken Robillard, fought the blaze for about seven hours.

"Due to the length of the call, Red Cross assisted the firefighters with much needed food and beverages," said Robillard.

"Red Cross provides assistance to firefighters on many fires throughout the year. This is a greatly appreciated response," Robillard added.
