The Sun Valley 14/15-year-old Babe Ruth baseball team snapped a two-game losing skid with an 8-4 home victory yesterday over Ebb Tide Construction of Pasco.
The Sunnyside team trailed 3-1 heading into the bottom of the third when it erupted for a four-run rally to take the lead for good at 5-3.
Jonathan Hysell smacked a two-run double to spark the rally.
Sun Valley starting pitcher Victor Nunez threw four innings and yielded three runs. Reliever Justin Reyes pitched the final three innings and surrendered just one run.
In the field, Sun Valley sparkled with just one error.
"The defense came through last night," said Coach Tom Schmick.
Did it ever!
Sun Valley fielders brought the game to an abrupt halt in the top of the seventh. A Pasco base runner tried to score from second on a hit deep into the outfield, but the Sun Valley relay throw nailed the runner at the plate for the second out.
On the same play, another Pasco baserunner tried to go to third and was thrown out for the third and final out of the game.
Hysell was 2-for-2 at the plate, and Oscar Hernandez was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Substitutes Alex Aguilar and Lane Pickel were 1-for-1 and 1-for-2, respectively.
Sun Valley (7-4) plays at Richland today.
