Teen assaults Mabton man with brass knuckles

MABTON - Mabton Police are looking for a 15-year-old Mabton juvenile in connection with an assault on a 50-year-old man that happened Monday night in the 300 block of Third Avenue.

Mabton Police Chief Raul Almeida said a group of youths were making some noise around 10:30 p.m. when Manuel Saenz told them they had to be quiet and go home. The 15-year-old juvenile exchanged some words with Saenz and then pulled out some brass knuckles and started beating Saenz.

"He got beat up pretty bad," Almeida said. "The victim refused medical treatment but some family members later took him to the hospital."

The suspect is still at large. "We know who he is," Almeida said. We've contacted his mother but she doesn't know where he's at. We believe he might be in the Sunnyside area."

The juvenile has been charged in the past for spray painting gang graffiti. He will be charged with first-degree assault and possession of a dangerous weapon in this case.
