PASCO - Small ball wasn't enough for the Sun Valley 13-year-old Babe Ruth baseball team, which on Wednesday lost 12-2 at Pasco.
The Sunnyside club started off on the right foot, by being fleet of foot. A combination of three steals and a passed ball gave Sun Valley a 2-0 lead in the top of the first without benefit of a run producing hit.
Pasco edged ahead 3-2 after three innings, then broke the game wide open with nine runs in the fourth to make it a 12-2 game.
"They put together a lot of hits," Sun Valley Coach Jaime Garcia said of Pasco's fourth inning outburst.
Meanwhile, Sun Valley, which pushed across 10 runs in a contest on Tuesday, was shut-out the rest of the way against Pasco's pitching.
"Their pitcher threw well," Garcia observed. "They had a solid catcher, who threw us out trying to steal a couple of times."
Rigo Valdez and Andrew Daley both went 2-for-2 at the plate with a stolen base and one run scored apiece to lead Sun Valley.
Sun Valley (0-10) may have a home make-up game today at 5:30 p.m. against East Valley. The Sunnyside team is also scheduled to play next Monday at home against Richland at 5:30 p.m.
