Teens collect donations for food bank

When a group of teens get together, they get results.

Last week, acting on their own initiative, 15-year-olds from Sunnyside set up a food and money collection stand in Centennial Square to benefit the food bank at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Thailee Paxton, Krystal Snyder and Maria Alvarado, freshman at Sunnyside High School, headed the effort, which resulted in putting $73 and boxes and sacks of donated food into the food bank.

The girls said they were concerned about people in need. They also said they might hold another collection day later in the summer.
