The Toppenish father-son duo of Dave and Adam Story bested the 35-team field at last Sunday's fourth annual Parent-Child Golf Tournament, hosted on Father's Day by Sunnyside's Black Rock Creek Golf Course.
The Storys carded a 1-over-par 73 to win the low gross title, edging the Zillah father-son duo of Paul and Ryan Stonemetz, who finished with a 3-over 75. One stroke back in third place, with a 4-over 76, was the Grandview father-son team of Kirk and Andrew Michels.
Sunday's format was Chapman/Scotch Ball-which features each member of the two-person team teeing off, hitting each other's drives and then choosing one ball to play, alternating shots until the ball is in the cup on each hole.
The Toppenish winners snared three birdies, absorbing four bogeys as well, enroute to posting the low round of the day. The Storys also won low gross honors in the same tournament, with the same score, in 2004.
The fourth and fifth place finishers in the tourney were Tom and Sean Tudor (79), and Mel and Jarred Brink (83). Tying for sixth place honors with identical 84's were the duos of Leroy and Joe Miller, and Nick and Jim Muir.
The top six placers in both the gross and net divisions earned pro shop credits at Black Rock Creek.
The net scoring column winners (actual score minus handicap) included: Howard Morgan and his son Morgan III (63.10), Mark and Jeramie Drollinger (63.75), Rudy and Bryce Gout (64.05), Lyn and Blake Dasso (66.60), Bob and Tyler Story (67.20), and Mike and Gary Richardson (67.30).
