The Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce will host athletes from across the Pacific Northwest for its fourth annual 3-on-3 basketball tournament, set for July 22-23.
Known as the Sunnyside Summer Jam, the tournament is open to novice and accomplished players, male and female, ages 10 and up.
Last year's tourney drew 67 teams, some from as far away as Spokane and Hermiston, Ore., noted event coordinator Jose Lopez.
The 2006 tourney will be held on 12 basketball courts in a designated area of the Mid-Valley Mall parking lot, he said. All the games are played on a half-court arrangement.
The competition not only draws teams, but spectators as well. In 2005, for example, Lopez estimated there was up to about 1,000 people at the tourney in terms of foot traffic.
Each competitor receives a t-shirt. Trophies and prizes will also be awarded to winners in each age-bracket.
Registration fees are $65 for a youth team and $75 for an adult team (ages 18 and up). The registration deadline is July 19.
Registration forms are available by calling the Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce at 837-5939 or toll-free at 800-457-8089. You may also pick up a registration form at the Chamber office at 230 E. Edison Avenue.
