Librarian honored at council meeting

GRANDVIEW - The Grandview City Council took time during its Monday night meeting to honor librarian Ruth Dirk.

According to the staff at the Safeway Pharmacy in Grandview, in a letter they wrote to the city council, Dirk went out of her way to help the senior citizens of Grandview sign up and understand the Medicare part D prescription program.

According to the Safeway staff, they are not allowed to help the public understand the plan because they might influence the public's choice and profit from it. Dirk took the bull by the horns and led many confused seniors in selecting a program that would help them with prescription coverage.

The staff say she made herself knowledgeable and went above and beyond her job to serve and help many people with a difficult job.

The mayor thanked Dirk and presented her with a certificate of thanks.

"Thank you everybody," a tearful Dirk told the council.
