FINLEY - Of the 23 wrestlers the Mabton Lil' Vikings had competing at last Saturday's season opening tournament at Riverview High School, four of them won individual titles.
The "mighty mite" champions included Ventura Rodriguez in the 5/6-year-old 48-lb. division, Bobby Flores in the 7/8-year-old 67-lb. weight class, Dante Cruz in the 7/8-year-old 80-lb. division and Daniel Vargas for 11/12-year-old 80-lb. competitors.
Seven of the Mabton grapplers earned runner-up finishes in Finley. They included Juan Carlos Trujillo in the 5/6-year-old 56-lb. class, Britnee Guerrero in the 5/6-year-old 58-lb. class, Desiree Zavala in the 7/8-year-old 62-lb. class, Desanay Guerrero in the 7/8-year-old 80-lb. class, Jeremiah Urbina in the 7/8-year-old 58-lb. class, Emiliano Rodriguez in the 9/10-year-old 60-lb. class and Rafael Martinez in the 9/10-year-old 119-lb. class.
Third place finishers for the Mabton Lil' Vikings were Gilbert Martinez in the 7/8-year-old 47-lb. class, Andre Villegas in the 7/8-year-old 93-lb. class, Vesente Mireles in the 9/10-year-old 69-lb. class and Gustavo Martinez in the 11/12-year-old 135-lb. class.
Mabton's youth wrestling club is scheduled to again compete this coming Saturday at a tournament in Connell.
