Medina's murder trial set for April 10

Fidel Medina, 26, of Sunnyside was arraigned Feb. 24 in Yakima County Superior Court, where he was charged with second degree murder and first degree of unlawful possession of a firearm. An April 10 trial date was set.

Medina was arrested by Sunnyside police officers Feb. 21 at a residence in the 700 block of South Ninth Street and charged with the murder of Xavier Perez, who was fatally shot on Dec. 22, 2005 at his rental home at 1713 Guernsey Street in Sunnyside.

At the time Medina was arrested, Sunnyside police also took into custody a woman they described as Medina's common law wife, Michele Martinez, 26, charging her with a misdemeanor, rendering criminal assistance, first degree.

Martinez, who was released on bail, appeared in Sunnyside Municipal Court this past Tuesday (March 7) and entered a plea of not guilty. Her pretrial hearing was set for March 28.

Sunnyside police are still seeking a suspect, Decederio Palencia, 18, in relation to this murder. Anyone who has information as to his whereabouts is requested to notify Sunnyside police at 509-836-6211.
