KENNEWICK - The Mabton fastpitch softball team opened the 2006 campaign with a third-place showing this past Saturday at the 10-team Tri-City Prep Tournament.
"It went well," Coach Jesus Sustaita said of the tourney. "The girls were sharp."
After losing the tourney opener 10-6 to Dayton, the Lady Vikings reeled off a 12-8 win over Lyle and a 14-2 romp over the Kamiakin freshman team.
"It was opening game jitters," Sustaita said of the loss to Dayton, which saw Mabton surrender all 10 runs in the third inning.
"We did an excellent job," the coach added. "The girls only had four total errors for the three games."
Mabton (2-1) hosts LaSalle this Tuesday in a league doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
