Second degree murder charge filed

Zacharias Cavasos, 25, of Sunnyside was charged with murder in the second degree and unlawful possession of a firearm at his arraignment in Yakima County Superior Court yesterday (Wednesday).

His trial date has been set for May 8, with an omnibus hearing to be held April 17.

Cavasos is accused of fatally shooting Miguel A. Rivera of Sunnyside at a residence at 1210 Beckner Road on the afternoon of March 18.

Cavasos was arrested by Yakima County Sheriff's deputies Sunday, March 19, after he was found hiding in a Grandview residence.
