PROSSER - Both the Grandview boys and girls tennis teams swept the Mustangs on the road Thursday afternoon, 5-0.
For the boys team, No. 1 singles player Zach Poteet had a difficult time disposing of Prosser's Matt Taylor. Poteet took the first set 6-4 before dropping the second set 6-1, only to come back in the third and win a close 7-5 set.
In the No. 2 singles slot, Grandview's Raymond Cantu won by forfeit.
In the No. 1 doubles contest, Grandview dominated. Kevin Floyd and Paulino Fajardo blanked Kellen Crawford and Homer Gongora of Prosser 6-0, 6-0.
Nick Saldana and Robert Madrigal of Grandview played the most competitive match of the afternoon, against C.J. Fulto and John Surmeyer of Prosser. The Grandview No. 2 doubles team dropped the first set 6-1 to the home side, but won a second set tiebreaker to force a third and decisive set. Saldana and Madrigal took the third set 6-3 to earn the victory.
Joey Diaz and Rodrigo Fajardo blew away the competition in the No. 3 doubles match as they blanked Zach Alford and Colton Zocher of Prosser 6-0, 6-0.
The Grandview girls earned their first victory of the young season as they, too, blanked Prosser.
The 'Hounds were led by No. 1 singles player Miranda Shreeve. Shreeve played a very close and competitive match against Diana Smith of Prosser, winning 6-4, 6-4.
The No. 2 singles match was another close one as Christine Penwell defeated Prosser's Susan Wilson 7-6, 4-6, 7-5.
On the girls doubles side, Allison Grow and Danika Martinez played a close first set with Molly Field and Brooke Shaffer of Prosser in the No. 1 doubles match. Grow and Martinez won the match 6-4, 6-1.
Kyla Leyendekker and Sara Amaro continued the trend of close matches for Grandview, as the Lady 'Hounds team defeated Prosser's Stephanie Lyom and Ali Suhadolnik 7-6, 6-3.
In the final girls doubles match, Adriana Valdez and Lily Yoon lost just four games to Prosser's Christy Surmeyer and Carmen Gooldy in a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
The Greyhounds will host Ki-Be this Saturday at 11 a.m. in a CWAC league match.
