Shooting report turns out to be kids with BB guns

MABTON - A report of shots fired in a Mabton neighborhood last night brought law enforcement officers from Mabton, Grandview and the Washington State Patrol.

Geared up for a worst possible scenario, the officers found two juveniles firing a BB gun at passing motorists.

"We had the (8:53 p.m.) report of gunshots fired, and we were not thinking a BB gun," said Ildia Jackson, Mabton administrator.

"It was a couple of juveniles shooting from a home, and I believe a couple of car windows did get hit," she said. "The juveniles were picked up and at least one will be charged with reckless endangerment."

That juvenile is 16, she said, while the other youth, also unnamed because he is a juvenile, is younger.

Law enforcement spent two hours investigating the incident, which took place in the 300 block of Maple Street in Mabton.
