YAKIMA - Mabton's softball team broke out the bats in a 19-9 and 15-7 sweep of LaSalle yesterday in a league doubleheader.
Alida Mendoza (5-2) went the distance in both games for the Lady Vikings.
"We're eating our Wheaties and making adjustments on the bat," laughed Coach Jesus Sustaita. "It's sure paying off, we're a whole different team."
In the opener, Mendoza received all the support she would need when Mabton posted 15 runs in the third inning. Sustaita said his team made the most of the 10 walks it received from LaSalle pitching.
Sparking the Lady Vikings in the first game were Mendoza, who hit a two-run home run, along with Celida Diaz and Anna Jimenez, who went 4-for-5 and 3-for-3, respectively at the plate.
In the nightcap, Mendoza and Diaz both went 3-for-5 at the plate to spark Mabton. The Lady Vikings scored seven runs in both the third and fourth innings on the way to the win.
Also leading the hit parade was Celida Valle, who went a combined 4-for-8 in the two games.
Mabton (3-1, 5-3) doesn't return to action until a home twin bill against Lyle on April 14.
