RICHLAND - Yesterday, sophomore Dacia Drollinger got a final tune-up in for next Wednesday's District tournament, on the same course the postseason competition will be held.
Competing at the Mid-Valley League's final POD match of the season, staged at Richland's Horn Rapids Golf Course, Drollinger toured the 18-hole desert and target course with a score of 111. The Sunnyside High School underclassman posted a 53 on the front side, absorbing a 58 after the turn.
The 111, said Sunnyside Coach Gary Rohde, is pretty much in the ballpark where Drollinger scores.
The one part of her game that Rohde was especially impressed with yesterday was in how Drollinger was getting off the blocks.
"She drove the ball wonderfully," said Rohde. "She was clubbing it," he added, explaining that most of Drollinger's drives were in the 200 to 210-yard range.
Drollinger's short game yesterday?
"We're going to work on that," Rohde said.
Another highlight that came out of Thursday's play was in how Drollinger ended her round. She finished with three consecutive pars-on the par-4 16th, the par-3 17th and the par-4 18th hole.
The one other member of the Lady Grizzly golf team, Emily Shuttleworth, was unable to play yesterday because of illness. Rohde said he expects Shuttleworth to recover in time to play at next Wednesday's District tourney.
