Automatic alarm rousts firefighters early this morning

Automatic alarms that malfunction or are set off accidentally are the bane of firefighters and police officers, who rush out only to find no emergency requiring their attention.

At 2:54 a.m. today such an alarm brought Sunnyside firefighters to the alert because the city's safety personnel always take every alarm seriously and treat it like the real thing.

About three hours later, the firefighters got a for-real call to provide aid to a resident in the 1200 block of Carnation Drive. It was one of four calls received from 1:30 p.m. yesterday to this morning. They transported two of the four patients to Sunnyside Community Hospital. They also transferred a patient from the Sunnyside hospital to a Wapato nursing facility. In addition, they made two service calls.
