Three men were arrested yesterday after an observant neighbor alerted Sunnyside police to a burglary in progress at 9:40 a.m. at a residence in the 1300 block of South 11th Street.
"The witness obtained a suspect vehicle description and responding officers located the vehicle a block away from the residence, and a short vehicle pursuit started, lasting about three city blocks until the suspects fled the vehicle on foot," Det. Sgt. Jeff Cunningham reported.
Officers continued the pursuit on foot, catching Pedro Baltazar, 25, of Sunnyside. The other two, Marcelino Flores, 18, and Jairo Cardenas, 18, both of Sunnyside, fled to a convenience store in the area of Ninth Street and Lincoln Avenue to hide in a bathroom and a storage area.
"They were taken into custody inside the store by officers," Cunningham added.
Property from the residence on South 11th Street was recovered by the officers in the vehicle and from inside the store.
All three suspects were booked at the Sunnyside jail and will be transferred to Yakima County Jail for arraignment on charges of residential burglary. An additional charge of eluding has been requested against Cardenas.
