Grandview man injured in mishap
TOPPENISH – 71-year-old Leslie R. Soper of Grandview
sustained injuries yesterday in a three-vehicle collision that occurred at the
intersection of SR-97 and Larue Road.
The Thursday, May 18, accident happened at about 9:50 a.m.
According to the Washington State Patrol, Soper was
westbound on Larue Road in a 1998 Dodge Ram pick-up and turned south onto
SR-97, in front of an approaching 1993 Kenworth semi-truck driven by Orin B.
Bullis, 49, of Pasco. A collision occurred in the intersection. Troopers said
Soper failed to yield the right-of-way to Bullis.
The crash sent Soper’s pick-up truck careening into the
southbound lane of SR-97, where it collided with a southbound 1994 Harley
Davidson motorcycle, driven by John L. Fry, 48, of Tacoma.
WSP troopers report they’ll seek failing to yield
right-of-way charges against Soper.
Soper was transported to the Toppenish hospital to be
treated for his injuries, while the rider of the motorcycle, Fry, was sent to
Yakima Memorial Hospital. The driver of the semi, Bullis, sustained only minor
injuries and did not require hospitalization.
All three vehicles were reported as totaled.
