Hernandez earns 'Player of Year' 'B' league honors

Sunnyside Christian High School senior Emily Hernandez has been named the Greater Columbia 'B' League's player of the year for fastpitch softball.

Hernandez, the Lady Knights' ace hurler who has led her team to this year's conference and district titles, and has sparked her club to already qualifying for this year's State tournament, is one of the prime reasons her team has an overall record of 18-4 thus far.

She is one of five Lady Knights on this year's all-opponent fastpitch softball all-star squad. Also named to the all-opponent team are Sunnyside Christian's Brittany denHoed, Tori Van Wingerden, Jacqui Roberts and Courtney Rice.

Mabton has three players on the all-opponent team-Alida Mendoza, Jesica Orozco and Mayra Diaz.

This year's all-opponent Greater Columbia 'B' League baseball squad includes two Sunnyside Christian players-John Bosma and Aaron Van de Graaf. Coach of the year honors went to Sunnyside Christian's Jeff Bosma. The league's player of the year honors were afforded to LaSalle's Lawrence Cacchiotti.
