Black Rock Creek one out of top spot on local senior tour

RICHLAND - Sunnyside's Black Rock Creek Golf Course is sitting in the No. 2 spot in the Central Washington Senior Tour standings, after a competition last week at Richland's Horn Rapids Golf Course.

Terry Matthews fired the low gross round from among the 16 Black Rock Creek golfers who competed at Horn Rapids last week. He carded a 7-over-par 79. Black Rock Creek's low net round (actual score minus handicap) was posted by Max Wickham, who carded a handicap-aided 66.

One stroke off Matthew's 79 was teammate Gene McIntire, who toured the 18 holes with an 80. The Black Rock Creek team also got an 81 from Chuck Mattocks, an 82 from Larry Kleingartner, a pair of 86's from Troy Monholland and James Clift, and an 87 from Ron Kroger.

A total of 108 senior golfers representing nine golf courses competed at Horn Rapids last week. The Walla Walla Veterans Golf Course team is currently atop the senior tour standings with 29 points, with the Black Rock Creek squad in second with 25.5 points.
