Dolores H. "Tia-Loli" Castañeda, 89, of Mabton passed away Saturday, May 20, 2006, at her home in Mabton.

Dolores was born Oct. 16, 1916 in San Pedro de las Colonias, Coahuila, Mexico, the daughter of Guillermo and Josefa (Leyva) Hernandez. In 1950, she married Juan Castañeda and they made their home in Mabton. One of Dolores' proudest achievements was becoming an American citizen in 1983.

She cherished time spent with her extended family, which included 15 great-nieces and nephews. Dolores also participated in senior citizen center activities in Mabton and Grandview.

She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mabton. Dolores is survived by her nieces, Billie (Joe) Treviño of Naches, Josie Garza Hernandez of Mabton, Esperanza (Jesus) Lemos of Yakima, Yolanda (Rene) Montelongo of Grandview, Maria Hernandez of Yakima; two sisters, Ester Rosas of Hutchinson, Kansas and Hortencia Garcia of Los Angeles, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Juan Castañeda; one brother, Guadalupe Hernandez; and one niece, Rosa Maria Hernandez.

Viewing and visitation will be held Wednesday, May 24, 2006, from 4 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, May 25, 2006, at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mabton. Burial will be at Mabton Cemetery under the direction of the Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside.
