Artz-Fox Elementary School improvement plan OK'd

MABTON - The Mabton School Board accepted the improvement plan for Artz-Fox Elementary School at Monday night's meeting.

Artz-Fox Principal Dawn Weddle told the board she and her staff hope to increase the students' scores from their current level of 64 percent passing the WASL to the state standard of 76 percent. Scores in math are 15 percent passing the WASL and Weddle said she would like to see this raised to 65 percent. Writing scores are 28 percent now and should be raised to 55 percent, she added.

The current scores are based on 2005 numbers and staff hopes to have the scores raised to state standards by 2008.

Mabton School resignations

MABTON - The Mabton School Board accepted the resignations Monday night of Betsy Desmarais, a special education teacher at Mabton Jr./Sr. High School. Bob Thomas, a guidance counselor at Mabton Jr./Sr. High School and his wife Diane Thomas, an English teacher at Mabton Jr./Sr. High School announced their retirement and the board accepted their resignations. The board also accepted the resignation of John Durham, a science teacher at Mabton Jr./Sr. High School.

Mabton School hires coach

MABTON - The Mabton School Board hired Chris McCallum as the Mabton Junior High School assistant baseball coach at Monday night's meeting.
