Garbage service

to be delayed because of holiday

The Yakima County landfills and transfer station will be closed Monday, May 29, in observance of Memorial Day.

Yakima Waste Systems, Inc. will also observe the holiday and not make any garbage runs Monday in the Lower Yakima Valley. All garbage routes will run one day late the entire week of May 29 through June 3.

Pioneer teachers

at McDonald’s Tuesday, May 30

Sunnyside Pioneer Elementary School teachers will be working at the Sunnyside McDonald’s restaurant next Tuesday, May 30, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

A portion of the sales during the three-hour shift will be donated by McDonald’s for Pioneer Elementary School activities.

Grease fire causes minimal damage

GRANDVIEW – A fire that started in a pan left on a stove caused minor damage to a home located in the 500 block of East Wine Country Road this past Wednesday evening.

Grandview firefighters report they responded to the alarm at about 6:05 p.m. this past Wednesday. They said once on the scene they saw the fire had started atop the stove, and that the blaze had spread to the overhead kitchen cabinets. Damage is estimated at about $1,500.

The occupant of the home, Leticia Castanada, and six children were relocated to temporary shelter that evening by the American Red Cross.

The house is owned by Mike McSharry.
