PASCO - Sunnyside senior Christy Linde concluded her high school athletic career with sixth-place honors in the 100 hurdles at the State 3A track and field meet in Pasco this past weekend.
Linde, Sunnyside's only State qualifier, ran a time of 15.46 to take sixth in the 100 hurdles. Devin Brooks of Holy Names defended her State title in the event by finishing first with a time of 14.05.
In the 300 hurdles, the other event she qualified for, Linde just missed a spot in the finals. The top eight times from preliminary heats advanced to the finals, and Linde was ninth, with a time of 47.15.
"We knew she would place in the 100, but for her to have placed in the 300 would have been the icing on the cake," said Coach Robin Bryson.
She added, "It was a very successful season for both the boys and girls, with the combination of a lot of young freshmen and sophomores that improved as the season went on and a group of upper classmen that came up with strong performances in Districts and Regionals.
"A significant number of athletes improved from where they were last year, and a lot had their top performances at Districts and Regionals," she said. "You can't be disappointed when a season ends like that."
