Changes proposed for Girls swimming agreement

Sunnyside High School is proposing a change in the girls swimming program, which would have the girls in a cooperative agreement with 3A West Valley High School instead of 4A Davis, as has been the case in the past.

Sunnyside Athletic Director Bill Daley explained the proposal is a result of the school's new alignment for the 2006-07 school year with 3A and 4A divisions in a combined Columbia Basin League.

Daley said the agreement, if approved by both West Valley and Sunnyside School boards as well as State and Regional athletic governing bodies, would mean that Sunnyside and West Valley would share transportation, coaches and facilities. Each school, though, competes in swim meets as a separate team.

It is similar to the existing agreement with Davis High School.

Daley said scheduling issues for girls swimming because of the larger number of teams than boys is a reason for seeking the change. The boys cooperative agreement with Davis would be unchanged.

Sunnyside girls swimming begins in the fall, with the boys team competing in the spring.

If the Sunnyside girls' move from Davis to West Valley is approved, Daley said he anticipates the final paperwork would go through in August.
