Sunnyside police officers will begin anew, in their aim to thin the community's crow population.
Officer John Rodriguez reported that starting tonight (Wednesday), local residents will begin hearing shotgun blasts. Officers for the next month or two, said Rodriguez, will spend some of their evenings shooting the birds.
Rodriguez said the eradication efforts will begin at about 6:30 p.m. in the evenings. "The nights we're shooting, we'll go until about 8 p.m. on the weekdays and 9:30 or so on the weekends," he said.
Because of the onset of cold weather, more and more of the large, black birds are congregating in town, said Rodriguez. "They come in from the country side into town, where there's a heat pocket," he explained.
Rodriguez said local residents who notice large gatherings of the birds are encouraged to call police (836-6200) to report where the officers can find the crows.
