Portions of the existing face of Sunnyside Community Hospital and emergency department will be demolished next Wednesday, Nov. 15, through Friday, Nov. 17.
The demolition, part of a $3 million expansion of the emergency department, means that patients and ambulances coming to the emergency room will need to enter through the main hospital entrance. Once inside the main lobby, signs will direct patient flow to the emergency department interior entrance.
Once the overhang on the ambulance entrance is demolished, that entrance will reopen for use. That is expected to be completed by Friday, Nov. 17.
The expansion project is scheduled for completion in 10 to 12 months and will expand the emergency department from 4,100 square feet to 7,500 square feet.
Patient parking will be maintained as a priority during all phases of the construction. It will be limited to the front parking lot of the hospital. There is also parking designated for Emergency Department patient use only along portions of Tacoma Avenue.
In addition, the hospital will also have bilingual patient care coordinators on site to answer questions and direct patients to the emergency room.
