Trial stalled again

The trial date of Nov. 14 for Richard Rangel, 53, accused of the fatal stabbing of Kevin David Underwood of Grandview in April 2006, has been rescheduled for Jan. 2, 2007.

Rangel was first scheduled to be tried in Yakima County Superior Court June 19. The charges against him include first degree murder of Underwood, two counts of burglary and first degree attempted murder of Lee Ann Ferson, 36, of Grandview, who was also stabbed in the attack on Underwood.

Sandra Borboa, 47, was also arrested following the attacks and charged with criminal assistance in the first degree. Her trial date of Nov. 22 has also been reset for Dec. 4, 2006.

A backlog of cases or attorneys seeking more time to prepare cases frequently necessitates rescheduling of trials.
